Lily Allen Responds to Backlash Over Her Feedback About “Nepo Infants”

Lily Allen has extra to declare.

Because the dialogue of nepotism in Hollywood continues to develop, the “Smile” singer—who’s the daughter of actor Keith Allen and movie producer Alison Owen—lately voiced her opinions on “nepo infants,” writing in a Dec. 19 tweet that “y’all must be worrying about are those working for authorized corporations, those working for banks, and those working in politics, If we’re speaking about actual world penalties and robbing individuals of alternative.”

The comment was met with some backlash on social media, with one Twitter person commenting, “So go have these discussions then? Nobody is stopping you. However when a DIRECT BENEFICIARY of a problematic system factors in the other way and goes ‘Hey look over there!’ I am not prepared to allow them to distract me.”

Now, Lily is defending herself and clarifying her ideas. “Look, I appear to have riled individuals up with my feedback about nepo infants,” she wrote in a Dec. 20 tweet. “I’m practically 40 years of age and am very happy, in actual fact I believe it is vital to reveal what a privileged upbringing I’ve had and the way that has created so many alternatives for me.”
