James Corden was nearly a resident of the Shire.

On the Dec. 27 episode of the Completely satisfied Unhappy Confused podcast, the Late, Late Present host confirmed that he auditioned for Peter Jackson‘s 2001 movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. 

“Each single individual in London auditioned for Lord Of The Rings,” he informed host Josh Horowitz. “Everyone. I auditioned for Samwise. I used to be doing the accent and the whole lot.” 

Though the audition course of was “not good” for Corden, the late-night host shared that he did land a second likelihood, as he was referred to as again. “Two of my different pals went in [to audition] after which all of us received referred to as again the subsequent day,” he recalled. “Then we received referred to as again the subsequent day.”

However, as followers of the franchise effectively know, Corden did not ebook the function. The truth is, in keeping with Corden, “None of us received referred to as again after that.”

Ultimately, the function of Samwise ended up within the fingers of The Goonies alum Sean Astin.
