Fred White, former drummer of Earth Wind & Hearth, has died on the age of 67.
“Youngster protégé, member of the EWF ORIGINAL 9, with gold data on the younger age of 16 years previous!” his brother and bandmate Verdine White wrote in an Instagram publish that introduced Fred’s passing.
After getting his begin drumming for Donny Hathaway, Fred White joined his brothers Verdine and Maurice White in Earth, Wind & Hearth in 1974. He performed on eight of the group’s albums, starting with 1975’s That’s the Approach of the World via 1983’s Electrical Universe, and may be heard on such traditional songs as “Shining Star,” “September,” and “Boogie Wonderland.”
As a member of Earth, Wind & Hearth, White was inducted into the Rock and Roll Corridor of Fame in 2000.
Fred was proceeded in dying by his brother Maurice in 2016. The group’s longtime saxophonist, Andrew Woolfork, handed away in April 2022.
