Eternity ( Le Chant du Pèlerin)

Barely returned from his pilgrimage to Mecca, Alpha Blondy went again into the studio and commenced to file what is going to grow to be the eponymous title of the album: Eternity. The artist opens the album with this “pilgrim’s chant”, a splendidly atmospheric reggae piece that portends huge pleasures.

We actually float on the divine feelings of the pilgrimage which rise crescendo. A heavy and implacable reggae within the powerfully mystical approach of an oasis solar, we plunge right into a gradual and heavy riddim. An enormous bass and an oriental association ideally a textual content impressed by this fabulous prayer, the Talbiya, which pilgrims should recite on their strategy to the Kaaba. Every measure is impregnated with this step, borrowed from spirituality, in the direction of the black stone.

Alpha Blondy explains: “It’s mystical. When one goes to Mecca, everyone seems to be required to recite this music. After I went there and noticed these hundreds of individuals converging in the identical route and singing this refrain, it gave me the concept for this music, which I wrote in English and in Dioula”.
